Believe it or not, that's exactly what the sword community needs. While we admire and deeply respect a select few organizations that have paved the way in providing places of discussion, we were sick of the piecemeal experience of most sites in our industry. We felt that the industry needed to evolve and could no longer ignore new technology. We see Swords.com as the bridge between the past and the future. This is the site you've been waiting for! We really wanted a place that was the be-all, end-all, of swords, fantasy, and gaming sites. We were tired of going to six different sites to talk about our love of these topics. For years we've been saying "Man...someone should really get this all together in one place. I see the same people on all these sites!". We were combing the web trying to find a user-based community that was just for people like us. We wanted to see the faces of other enthusiasts. We wanted to check out video posts of their trip to King Richard's Faire and photos of their sword collection, instead of just seeing their username and a neglected profile. After much hoping, we came to the conclusion that it was up to us to create such a place, and thus, Swords.com was born. This isn't just another forum, but a full-featured social networking site - the first of its kind for sword enthusiasts. The Swords.com social network is similar to Facebook™ or MySpace™, except that we connect people with similar interests. Who is your audience? It would have been a lot easier for us to serve a small niche market and call it a day. But when the founders of Swords.com first got together, we realized that our collective interests were broader than we had originally thought! We own (and love!) swords, and are absolutely nuts about Japanese, fantasy and sci-fi flicks. We have spent entire Sunday evenings playing AD&D or World of Warcraft. We were hooked on Dragon Ball anime not that long ago, and we boast vast collections of comic books. There are martial artists among us, and one of us even got married in a castle, all decked out in Renaissance garb. We quickly realized that sword lovers have broad interests, and we wouldn't do the site justice if we only focused on a small segment. So Swords.com is for everyone interested in bladed weaponry and its associated pursuits. Sword lovers, martial artists, gamers, collectors, military reenactors, fantasy buffs, movie fans, stage combatants, Medieval & Renaissance faire participants - this is YOUR site! What services can you provide? To start with, besides being the first social networking site for sword enthusiasts on the internet, we're also an all-encompassing sword site that includes original articles on sword-related topics, as well as sword, gaming, and other news links of interest. And yes, a superstore that focuses on high quality products, unique selection and a revolutionary user interface that makes buying swords and weapons easy. We're all about supporting local artisans and professionals and provide an outlet for them to showcase their labors of love. But here's where we really differ from the others: moving forward, we'll listen to whatever you tell us. We're game to add anything to Swords.com that will make our site more entertaining and useful. The social network is only the beginning! You get to decide where we go from here. We've already rolled up our sleeves, and have ordered a truckload of coffee. We are ready to work on the features and services you want the most. Can I help create content? We thought you'd never ask! We know that swords appeal to a broad range of individuals with a wide range of purpose. We are not experts in everything, nor can we ever be. But this is where you come in - our goal is to foster collaboration, and to provide an outlet for contributing to the world's sword community at large. From the casual observer fascinated with bladed weaponry to the most elite gamer on the web, we want to hear from all of you. The meaning of our network is inclusiveness. Sometimes people with our interests feel like we're on the outside looking in. Not here...this is for all of us. Know of a local artisan that makes great swords, knifes or other kind of smithing? Let us know, and we'll do the rest! Sounds pretty good so far. What's the catch? We don't like catches. We're hook free. This is a labor of love...a site for sword enthusiasts, by sword enthusiasts (and a few computer geeks as well!). Our reputation is our most prized asset, and we will not compromise in providing the best user-experience in the industry. Of course, we're not going to be perfect. Let us know if we ever drop the ball, and our staff will be sure to take care of business. It's also about time we can shed some of the rules of everyday life. Isn't this why we got into the swordplay and fantasy world in the first place? We have rules at work, rules at home, and rules at school. At Swords.com, you can do what you want. It's a network based on the things you want to do, see, hear, and attend. Go ahead...tell other hobbyists about yourself and your swords. Tell your stories about renaissance fairs, or crafting your own chainmail. Post pictures of your new Odachi, or start a group for people interested in LARP in your area! There are probably people down the road eagerly anticipating the release of the next fantasy film, but you never knew they existed. We're thrilled to connect you with others who share your interests and ideas. We got this thing started. The rest is up to you. Together we can turn Swords.com into the new face of the sword enthusiast online. |
