Various edged weapons were used in the American Civil War. Artillerymen carried the Model 1832 Foot Artillery Sword, while mounted artillery used the Model 1840 Light Artillery Saber. The Model 1860 Cutlass Sword was issued to naval boarding parties, and the Model 1840 Army Noncommissioned Officers Sword to infantry sergeants. The Model 1850 Army Staff & Field Officers' Sword was used by regulation officers. Marine officers carried Mameluke swords. Other American swords during the Civil War were the Model 1832 Dragoon Saber, Model 1840 Cavalry Saber, and Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber.
