Renaissance Swords
Renaissance swords became more of fashion accessories rather than weapons used for battle due to changes in warfare, the emergence of firearms, and the discarding of armor. And because of the growing popularity of fencing, which was a new sport at that time, specialized daggers and swords became a hot commodity. Spain was the first to add curved guards to the Renaissance sword in 1460. The width of blades narrowed, the intricacy of sword designs increased, and stylish Renaissance swords became part of everyday wear. If you’re an avid sword collector or a Renaissance fair actor in search of a high quality Renaissance sword replica, look no further as we carry the best swords.

There are many different types of Renaissance swords. One is the compound-hilt sword, characterized by an elaborate hilt typically made up of a knuckle-bar, finger-rings, side-rings, and a quillon. The blade can be narrow or nearly edgeless. Basket-hilts and swept-hilts are some examples of compound-hilt swords. The rapier, which originated in Spain during the 16th century, is one of the hardest swords to master due to its lengthy and almost edgeless blade. It became popular thanks to fencing and dueling. This thrusting, single-handed weapon was rarely used for military purposes and was referred to as the “sword of civilians of social standing”.
Another Renaissance sword is the flamberge rapier, easily identifiable by its flame blade or wave blade. The undulating blade would produce an unsettling vibration in an opponent’s blade and cause it to decelerate as it ran across the “waves”. It was a fashionable sword and was mostly used by military officers during the 1600s. The Renaissance small sword, which is sometimes confused with the rapier, was created as a personal dueling weapon in the 1700s. Its triangular blade was stiff, sharp, pointed, and completely edgeless. It was extremely favored by the upper classes as a fashion accessory and was worn in the same way as jewelry.
