Swords represent honor and integrity. We don't expect all of you to live by the code of the samurai in your daily lives, but when you visit our site, you're visiting our home. As such you're our guests. We treat all of our guests with respect and courtesy, and we expect you to make everyone feel welcome as well. That's our code. We believe in inclusion.
There may be times when you feel like drawing your sword - when that happens, just take a deep breath and think "Zen thoughts". All you have to do is to remember one simple rule: JUST BE NICE. That's it.
Use Common Sense
Ok, well maybe not everyone knows what it means to "be nice". Granted, it's subjective. So let's go with some basic common sense rules:
- Pornography or sexually explicit content is NOT allowed on this site. Do not contribute or post any content (image, video, audio, blog, articles, news, comment, discussion) that has any sexual reference of any kind. Please be advised that we will immediately report anything remotely related to child exploitation to the FBI.
- We do not accept any content showing animal abuse, drug abuse, under-age drinking and smoking, or bomb making. Sword making is fine <wink>.
- Graphic or gratuitous violence is forbidden. If your content shows a person or animal being physically hurt, attacked, or humiliated, don't post it.
- Swords.com is not a shock site. Don't post gross-out videos of accidents, dead bodies or similar things intended to shock or disgust. Slicing watermelons with a katana is OK.
- Respect other people's work. Only upload content that you made or that you are authorized to use. Do not contribute or upload content that you do not own. Do not use content that someone else owns the copyright to without the proper written authorization from the owner.
- We respect different (or unpopular) points of view - in fact, the community thrives when we engage in passionate discussions about topics we love. While we encourage free speech, this does not include hate speech. Everybody is welcome at Swords.com, regardless of race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, and sexual orientation/gender identity. We have zero tolerance for any speech which attacks or demeans a particular group.
- Here's what we don't mess around with: things like predatory behavior, stalking, threats, harassment, intimidation, invading privacy, revealing other people's personal information, and inciting others to commit violent acts or to violate the Terms of Use are taken very seriously. Anyone caught doing these things will be permanently banned from Swords.com.
- Spam is disrespectful to us and to our community members. Don't create misleading descriptions, tags, titles or thumbnails in order to increase views. It's not okay to post large amounts of untargeted, unwanted or repetitive content, including comments and private messages. Don't just join our community to post your products or services. Contact us if you want to advertise - yes, you need to pay!
It all comes down to trust. We poured our heart, soul, blood, sweat, tears, and our own money to build this site. We did it because we're doing what we love. This is a labor of love. We enjoy sharing our experiences, and learning from other people. We trust you to follow our code. When that trust is broken, then stuff starts to happen.
We're not afraid to draw our swords
We're always prepared for battle. Some of us even come to work wearing a helmet and a battle axe. Please be advised that our team reviews reported/flagged content on a daily basis. We also review ALL content that's ever posted on our site. Anything that violates our guidelines will be immediately removed. Depending on the violation, we will either contact you and remind you of our guidelines, or we will terminate your account. We track several layers of information which identifies your computer. If your account is terminated, you won't be allowed to create any new accounts - ever. Anything remotely close to sexual or predatory behavior towards children (anyone under the age of 18) will be considered a criminal act. We will contact our local law enforcement agency and fully cooperate with them in indentifying you.
This is YOUR community!
The meaning of community is inclusiveness - this is for all of us. So just be nice and have fun!
Each and every user in our Swords Network makes the site what it is. So get active, and help us build it! Invite your friends to join you in the community. Create or join a group together. Start a personal blog. Share videos, photos and audio. Let other members know what you think of their content - comment on their stuff, rate their submissions. Share stories, discuss topics. Most importantly, make friends! We're here to connect you with others on the Internet and on your block.
If you ever find offensive content that violates our Terms of Use or our guidelines before we do, help us by being a good vigilante. For every posting on our Swords Network, we have a "Report This" link that notifies us of an infraction. We review this list daily, and will take appropriate action.
We hope you enjoy Swords.com, the first social network for swords enthusiasts! See you in the community!
Humbly yours,
The Swords.com Team
